Gal Gadot has been hitting the gym quite often these days. Preparing herself, our future Wonder Woman was asked in a recent interview about the powers of her character.
“She has unbelievable endurance. She is exceptionally strong. She can jump really high and practically fly. She know tons of martial arts styles. She is a strong and serious Woman.”
Many people have added even more doubt how this character will shape up in DC’s Cinematic Universe. With even more question like: Why wouldn’t they have her fly? and Which version of Wonder Woman are we getting then? The character’s history and origin has been changed and tweaked over the years. In the Golden Age (from the early forties to the late fifties/early sixties), the character couldn’t fly at all. In the Silver Age(late fifties/early sixties to the early eighties), Diana gained the ability to glide on air currents starting in Wonder Woman (vol 1) issue #98, May 1958. Post-Crisis on Infinite Earths (in 1985), Wonder Woman’s origin has been rebooted, and she could fly freely from the start. Hippolyta made a baby out of clay and the goddesses granted Diana beauty, power, strength, speed and flight. In 2011, DC Comics’ entire line of publications was relaunched with the New 52, and Wonder Woman’s origins have been rebooted again. This time she was a demigoddess, daughter of Hippolyta and Zeus, and could fly naturally.
So does that mean we might get the original Wonder Woman from the 50s? Why go back if we are to modernize it for current times? Or will we later get a growing of the character where this power will be learned at a later time? All good questions, fans are itching to get answers to.
Now that the character is getting skepticism, that just adds to the number that Gadot already received about her physical appearance when first landing the role. Like being too skinny, or boobs too small. Gadot Slamming her critics, says that she cannot please everyone. She said that she used to take criticism “really hard” when she was younger, but now haters just amuse her “It’s just empty talk. I understand that part of what I’m doing means being exposed. And part of being exposed is being under fire”.
Wonder Woman will appear in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice March 25, 2016, while her own solo movie “Wonder Woman” will be out on June 23, 2017.
